I did my immersive experience on the Japanese culture. My first location was the Japanese gardens, which included karesansui gardens, a traditional ceremonial teahouse, and a beautiful water feature containing many koi fish. This turned out to be one of my favorite things and I enjoyed learning more about the koi fish as they are related to the Japanese culture. My next cultural experience and perhaps my most favorite, because I love to eat, was experience Japanese culinary experiences from a tea ceremony to when and how you should eat ramen. I also learned to make sushi from sushi chef, Min One. I also had the opportunity to learn the meaning and reasons behind the intricate procedures of an authentic Japanese tea ceremony. From there I branched out to Japanese fashion starting with the history of the kimonos. At the Cherry Blossom festival, I was able to see actual kimono and yukata that a vendor had for sell. I also experienced dressing up in what is known as cosplay. Enjoying this part of the festival with other people in cosplay was truly an interesting experience. Other cultural experiences I was able to immerse myself in was a hearing a performance of Taiko Drumming, and learn more about a Japanese School. Several of these places had multiple experiences, including architecture, pagodas, Japanese shrines and temples, and several specific portions of the Japanese gardens. I wanted to allow myself the broadest cultural experience possible and found myself learning many things I did not know about Japan and her people.
