I interviewed Phyllis when I was in the Japanese gardens. She told me about her experience going to the garden. She likes going to them as the peaceful atmosphere is nice and calming. Just as many other people go to Japanese gardens, Phyllis had more curiosity for the Japanese culture after being there. Learning to and knowing how to utilize each element of the Japanese garden in one’s own garden was one of the things that is really cool about going to the gardens themselves. By immersing and experiencing a culture other than one’s own culture, one can start really learning about the world. Interacting with people from all over the world is really special because sometimes, the people that one meets who are from a different culture is the most important in life or the person that is going to have a distinct and important impact on their own journey.
After experiencing everything in this culture from the food to the fashion, education and traditional ceremonies, I feel closer, can relate more to, and learn to utilize some philosophies that the Japanese use in their culture in my everyday life. The immersive experience in a different culture was a great opportunity that I learned a lot from. I learned a whole lot about the culture that I would never get in a classroom or studying on my own. I really hope that whoever reads this blog can see the really magnificent experiences there are in the world and encourage them to go out and learn something new from what they know.
